I’ve been thinking that beta testing would be a good thing to do for my future updates of MW and any new apps I release. It would be great to get people’s creative suggestions before release, and given that updates take so long to push through Apple’s approval process, squashing bugs ahead of time can only be a good thing.
A very helpful player suggested http://ibetatest.com/. It’s a clever site where a developer announces a beta, and testers join that beta. Then they download a special prerelease version of the app and run that on their iPhones/iPod touches. The website handles all the management/feedback issues making it very simple.
I’ve created a beta for a new app I’m making. If you’d like to be the first to see and test it, sign up, and mark your ‘role’ as ‘Beta Tester’ on the form. Follow the instructions after that, and then post your username (your ibetatest.com username, not your MW username) as a comment on this post. The beta is private so I’ll use these names to invite people into the beta
After that, when the app is ready, I’ll upload it to the site and everyone can install it and let me know their feedback. Please note, you’ll need to be quick off the mark- I’m only going to run the test for a day or so, because I want to get the app quickly onto the App Store once it’s out in public.
Looking forward to inviting you

I have found a bug in v3.0 where no matter what you say for the incantaiton in a duel you get 100 percent power on the incantation.

That’s because it’s on your iPod touch, and it doesn’t have a microphone.

I’ve nearly got the Beta for my new app ready for release. I’m on UK time so I’ll put it up and collect the results tomorrow in time for submission to Apple on Saturday night.
I’ve invited everyone who posted on the blog, but several invites haven’t been accepted yet. Double check you’re in at ibetatest.com.
Btw, if anyone’s been finding the site confusing, you’re not alone! I don’t know if they should have gone with so much black…

Tell me about it! I know MW has problems, but the fact is, I’ve fixed the issues in v3 nearly a week ago. Every app and update must be approved by Apple before it can be released, and that’s where MW 4 has been for last 6 or so days.
When the update is approved, I’ll have it out to everyone asap
August 6, 2009 at 12:09 am
did you add anything new to V4? or is it just getting rid of the crashes?
August 6, 2009 at 3:44 pm
Can’t remember everything off the top of my head- but a forum was one of the main new features- post topics and messages to swap runes, chat, issue challenges, etc

Sounds like a great idea! I am also a developer but I am of course interested in the ‘menial tasks’ of beta-testing (or bug-fixing if you ever need)
